Strikingly attractive silver birch (Betula pendula) with its black and white bark, their leaves are incredibly medicinal. So common to gardens, woodlands and parks.

Rich in betulin and betulinol, these leaves are highly anti-bacterial and very useful for cystitis. They are also good at removing excess water, (maybe connected to blood pressure)or the menstrual cycle. They do this without irritating the kidneys, very important.

In Europe, they have always been used as a slimming aid. They also help arthritis as they are anti-inflammatory and reduce uric acid levels. Many digestive system issues are balanced with these leaves as well.

Caution: Due to salicylates in leaves, those sensitive to aspirin and salicylates or using blood thinning medication should not take it.
