Free Nettle Harvest ‘NOW’
Free Nettle Harvest ‘NOW’.
If you have a local nettle patch which is free of pesticides etc, keeping them cut low means you can return again and again to harvest. As you know they are a food tonic with a staggering 40% protein content (in the dried leaves) with high levels of magnesium, calcium, boron (bones and nerves) and also vitamin A, C, D & B.
Nettle leaf also helps to open up constricted bronchial passages making it easier for us to breath. Famous for its sting, we all used to think the sting contained formic acid (like ants do) but they don’t, the ‘sting’ contains 5 hydroxtyptamine (serotonin) which causes the sting and helps our mood as well!
Caution on when to harvest the leaves – harvest only when the leaves are young as the nutritional levels will be much much higher and will not contain the ‘cystolithes’ present in the leaves of post flowering to seeding nettles. These cystolithes will irritate the kidneys, so beware. (Incidentally, Nettle root for anti-inflammatory and hormone regulation can be harvested any time.)
