Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a tall beauty and welcome sight during summer with its cheerful yellow flower spikes and large furry leaves. This old friend has certainly been an important herb over the last 18 months.
It has generalized antimicrobial qualities that are specific to the lungs and has been used for various disorders like pneumonia, tuberculosis and bronchitis. It is now used for flu, chills, tonsillitis, and generally infected lungs, loosening phlegm and helping move it up and out. Jill has placed it therefore into our Breathe & Clear Herbal Tea and other lung orientated formulae.
To make a tea of your own from the leaves (or flowers) simply chop a small tablespoon of mullein and pour on boiling water. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes, then drink.
