Plants to Help Seasonal Allergies
Plants to Help Seasonal Allergies
Pollen induces respiratory allergies in early Summer is therefore the worst of times for many.
Pollen triggers immune and inflammatory reactions and the release of histamine.
Plants to help counter this are numerous. For instance, nettles will block the receptor sites that histamine usually latches onto. Not only this but it also dampens down and reduces the effect of the allergic response.
Other useful herbs are burdock root and dandelion leaves and roots. There are also plantain leaves, (Plantago lanceolata or major) and elderflowers to consider. With plantain, you can simply chew the leaves when out and about (streaming eyes and feeling overwhelmed) and its iridoid glycosides will dry up and shut down all the awful symptoms. Elderflower works similarly for different reasons, drying up and stemming streaming eyes and nose (herb tea of flowers).
