Convalescence used to have a real meaning.. It was understood that being ill would have taken a lot out of the body and that rest and recovery were essential. And additionally the more serious the illness, the longer this could take.
If this process is hurried or ignored altogether, then low grade, chronic illness can evolve over time.
Quite often getting more sleep can address many of the convalescence needs. (or even just better quality sleep)
Another aspect of convalescence will be upgrading food choices. Superfoods will be vital so as to cram in as much high-grade nutrition that uses up as little digestive energy as possible. Equally, it’ll be important to avoid inflammatory foods like sugar, alcohol, wrong fats etc.
Finally, daily exercise will be important not least as this will assist in better rest and sleep. The exercise must crucially be at a sensible level for the individual. Eg the very weak may only cope with a gentle (daily) short stroll, with increasing activity as time goes by, up to (but not beyond) the body’s limits.
Herbs that will help in generalized terms will be tonics, digestives and adaptogens. And to rule out excessive detoxing, which won’t be appropriate at this time.
