Walnut Harvest
(Juglans nigra)
Our neighbour’s walnut tree is always harvested by our ‘live-in’ squirrel families. They work hard to take these round green walnuts, burying them for future food sources when, by then, all the green then black outer casings have rotted away. Leaving just the hard shell and walnut inside.
High in protein walnuts are of huge nutritional value for not only the squirrel population but us as well.
As herbalists, we employ the outer casings to treat various skin diseases (including impetigo) and to help as part of a worming programme.
