Wild Horseradish and Winter Immunity
Hard to dig up, these deep fiesty roots give our lungs much needed dry warmth (and heat!) in our damper, colder days.
It is, of course, a major star in our Onion and Horseradish concentrate, for colds, flu, sinus and chesty issues etc.
It is highly antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal as well as being anti-inflammatory. This last ability is because it has an effect on specialized cells in the immune system.
Coming from the cabbage family, it naturally contains ‘glucosinolates’ which overall helps the liver function much better. Additionally, it’s ‘isothiocyanates, which are the heat aspect (released on chopping) helps breathing, thinning any mucus in the sinuses and thus relieving pressure and pain. (And any possible infection).
