Cloves for Christmas

Cloves have traditionally been pressed into oranges to make what were called ‘Christmas Orange Pomander Balls’. The blend of the orange and clove fragrance is delightful and attractive. They can be further preserved by rolling in a mix of nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove powder.
Cloves are strongly antimicrobial due to their eugenol, oleic acids, essential oils and more. They can kill gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria. But they are also renowned for helping food spoilage micro-organisms of viral or fungal origin.
