The Burs on Burdock
Our wild Burdocks are busy making their medicinal roots bigger for the autumn harvest. Meanwhile, their seed ‘ burs’ are busy hooking onto the fur of unsuspecting animals. ( I once had to cut 3/4 of a horses mane off because burs were tightly gripped into it ). And yes these burs were indeed once used as cheap buttons, hence their common name ‘ Beggars Buttons!’
We put Burdock root in quite a few of our formulae, for the liver, kidneys and more and not least in our Pollitox Capsules for daily detoxing.
Burdock root has so many capabilities! It’s a herbal antibiotic; a strong detoxifier of the blood and lymph system. (Studies show it will block dangerous chemicals from causing damage to cells and will help cellular regeneration )
It is enormously rich in antioxidants and these can be accessed as a food if dug and eaten before May for the younger less fibrous rootlets.
The root is also a brilliant blood sugar stabiliser, can help weight loss and is a natural diuretic. It will also aid skin renewal and other issues and is a natural digestive that can also encourage good gut bacteria.
