Elder and Hawthorn Hedgerow Health
The Elder in this photo has lost its leaves and gained some damp weather lichen and algae, whilst the Hawthorn still has the last of its autumn berries. Can we remember back to the summer when the elder was a mass of frothy cream flowers and then purple berries? Both the flowers and berries are as you know really great for fevers, colds, flu and similar, all made possible by its diverse phyto- compounds. Some of which also strongly help reduce inflammation.
Indeed hawthorn berries also help reduce inflammatory conditions, partly due to the red anthocyanins (like elderberry). They also (hawthorn) really help lower blood pressure, a real aid if you’re not yet on medication but potentially heading in that direction.
