Passionflower, Chamomile & Nerve Calmers
There’s no doubt that Winter festivities can cause stress by putting our bodies into overdrive. Winter is a time of hibernation for nature and not getting enough sleep or ‘down’ time can especially stress us out in the darker months.
There are lots of calming herbs of course and any or all can be used to offset the stress and enable enjoyment and calm. Classics like chamomile either as a tincture or a home-brewed tea are never to be underrated, Siberian ginseng root (https://tinyurl.com/mc3ydmn8) will add to support the nervous system by helping to build and restore the adrenal glands. And finally, don’t forget a lavender essential oil-rich (https://tinyurl.com/yprwuu94) bath to soak in and our restorative Lavender Flower Tea (https://tinyurl.com/kn7bcukm).
Using herbs to help us chill out and get a better night’s sleep can be important. Passionflower is a bit of an all-rounder with research listing it as having sedative, tranquillizing and sleep-inducing properties, whilst a 2001 clinical trial found it was as effective in relieving anxiety as oxazepam, a conventional tranquillizer. Herbalists use Passiflora incarnata tincture made from the flowers, which is also the species that many of us grow in our summer gardens.
