My grandmother was born a Victorian and had a doctor apothecary grandfather whose many wonderful homilies passed on from him to include “keep your kidneys covered in the cold”. You see it a lot, tops parting company with bottoms, exposing the kidneys as they bend over, in freezing winter days no less!
Plunging body temperatures and especially the kidneys will stress both your kidneys and adrenals. The adrenals sit on top of the kidneys and in winter these precious organs can do with all the nurturing and warmth they can get. We need to learn not to create adrenal triggering of these ‘couple organs and ultimately help our stress responses in the process. The cold is a time to parent, repair, conserve and nurture. Wrap up warm, wear a vest. If you already suffer from poor sleep, insomnia, poor digestion, fatigue and depression, this may be a sign of adrenal lows. Other effects will be lowered immunity.
