Olive Makes an Entrance
Olive Makes an Entrance
My three olive trees are proudly forming new growth much to my excitement. They will never produce mature fruit as we don’t have the sunshine, but I will be using some of the juvenile leaves in fresh teas.
Antioxidant Levels
Olive leaves are renowned for their high levels of antioxidants, double that of green tea.
The leaves are rich in the antioxidants oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol and have a high level of oleanolic acid and several polyphenols and flavonoids including oleocanthal. In all, the leaves are highly anti-ageing, immune-modulatory and anti-microbial.
Cardiovascular Support
Perhaps surprisingly they can be described as ‘heart food’ a bit like hawthorn as they can lower blood pressure and increase blood flow by relaxing the arteries. They also reduce low-density lipoproteins (LDL) (bad cholesterol).

Immune Support
One of the ways it works as an antibiotic and immune modulator is by acting as a natural killer of pathogens by inhibiting the replication process of fungus, viruses, bacteria and other life forms. It tricks and dupes the process, forestalling and destroying in countless ingenious ways. (It is also helpful for inflammation, due to its ability to support the immune system.)
Fresh Tea
Finely chop up 5 small leaves (3 large), leave to steep in boiled water for 20 minutes and then drink.
