A Blast of Barberry Flowers, for Gut and Immunity
Mostly known as ‘berberine ‘ it is in fact Barberry, as just one of its many biochemical compounds is called berberine. Barberry shrubs are a large family all with slightly varying flowers and autumn fruits, but all contain berberines, its highly prized plant compound.
I have been a fan of this shrub for decades and have placed it in both our ColoClear Capsules and GutRest Powder.
Its power lies in its particular abilities for decreasing bacterial overload in the gut and bowel, acting as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial.
Add to this many other abilities to include blood sugar balancing, weight-loss support and liver detoxing.
You can use these spring flowers to make a tea and cook with its autumn fruits. As herbalists, we tend to use its stems and roots which are bright yellow.
Small handful flowers to 500mls hot water.
Infuse 15 mins, drink one cup and keep the other cup for later or the next day.
