We all know about footbaths – and we might have even been treated to one! But getting ‘into them’ on a regular basis in the Summer months can be a really lovely self-treat. They are particularly rewarding at the end of a warm sticky day. In Winter we tend to think of baths as our comfort zone, but a footbath in Summer offers a real alternative and can even be done outside – a new comfort zone in different weather!
A quick version is a puddle of cold or slightly warm water in the bath or shower basin, with a few drops of lavender or lemon essential oil added in. But for a more nurturing longer soak, a bucket to plunge your feet and ankles into can be relished for 15 to 20 minutes or so.
You can choose any essential oil but the most cooling and refrigerant will be lavender and lemon. These are also incredibly calming to the nervous system and at the end of a busy day will also help lower your whole body and mind to a calmer place, with better sleep to follow – so a perfect end to a Summer’s day!
