Treat it all Burdock root is one of those plants you’d want on you’re desert island if stranded!
Burdock root is one of those plants you’d want on you’re desert island if stranded! It really does provide real help for so many wide-ranging situations. And so, of course, I placed it in our PolliTox capsule blend.
In PolliTox it partly acts as an ‘alternative’ which means it will clear toxins from the bloodstream. This can be an acute rash or equally, it will help clear chronic, long-standing conditions (which may also be hot and inflamed with poor circulation.) These abilities may be due to its wide range of antioxidants, all of which are anti-inflammatory. (A 2014 study showed reduced inflammatory markers in the bloodstream of those with osteoarthritis).
Burdock doesn’t stop there, it uniquely helps the skin for conditions ranging from acne, psoriasis and topical burns.
It will act as a competent antibiotic against many microbes to include staphylococcus.
For the gut it is soothing (gelatinous roots), innately digestive, is a gentle laxative and a prime liver and gallbladder aid. In Japan, it is considered a food and eaten as a revered vegetable, cooked and pickled.
Finally, it is also referred to as an Adaptogen, as it helps the entire body to function better in everyday life or when under undue stress.
The photo I took (Dec 2020) shows the smaller or lesser Burdock, Arctium minus. The roots are indeed smaller and less deep than its mainstream cousin Arctium lappa but medicinally just as useful and attractive.
