Collect the Chickweed and Help any Inflammation
It’s a herb that often roams our gardens, common lands and wastelands. I deem it a premier weed/herb so useful for today’s inflammatory conditions. This traditional spring cleanser makes a most delicious addition to any salad and after the long months of winter, our bodies will be craving freshly picked sources of green edibles.
As an anti-inflammatory, it will cool and heal any surface both internally and externally, hugely useful for lungs, for bowel and gut issues.
It is also useful for topical skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis and burns, where it soothes, cools and helps knit tissue together whilst also removing toxins.
Juicing Chickweed
If you can collect enough of it (and it often grows in clumpy profusion) you can add it to any juice of your making. It adds a lovely bright green hue to any blend.
It s generally considered a very safe herb.
Chickweed Recipe
It has a mild and fresh-tasting flavour that is gentle on the stomach.
1. 6 cups of chickweed leaves (and tender green stems attached).
2. Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper whisked together as a ‘French dressing’ or vinaigrette poured over.
3. You can add mustard and watercress in if you want a more ‘peppery’ overall taste.
If you have a lot, you can cook it like spinach.
